BOSTON, MA – The 129th Boston Marathon is set to take place on Monday, April 21st, with tens of thousands of runners from all 50 US states, Washington D.C., US territories, and 118 countries participating in the world’s oldest marathon. Defending champions Sisay Lemma (men’s) and Hellen Obiri (women’s) will return to defend their titles, alongside American elite runners Emma Bates and Colin Bennie.
The race, a major event in the World Marathon Majors series, will begin in Hopkinton and finish in Copley Square, covering 26.2 miles. Thousands of runners are also participating in the marathon’s charity program. This year’s marathon coincides with the 250th anniversary of the first battles of the Revolutionary War.
Pre-race events include a three-day Expo at the Hynes Convention Center and a Fan Fest at City Hall Plaza, both offering various activities and entertainment. A post-race party will also be held at City Hall Plaza on Monday evening.
Race day information includes official BAA bus transportation from Boston Common, accessible transportation for para-athletes from the Sheraton Boston Hotel, and a detailed course map available online. The race begins at 9:50 a.m. for para-athletes and the finish line closes at 5:30 p.m. Spectators can track runners online and meet family members in the designated Family Meeting Area.
