**Khammam, Telangana –** Daripalli Ramaiah, popularly known as ‘Vanajeevi’ Ramaiah, a renowned environmentalist and recipient of the Padma Shri award, passed away on Saturday at the age of 87. He suffered a heart attack at his home in Reddipalli village, Khammam district.
Ramaiah, credited with planting over one crore saplings throughout his life, dedicated his decades to environmental conservation, earning him the moniker “green crusader” and widespread respect. His work significantly impacted the Khammam district and beyond.
His death has prompted an outpouring of grief from political leaders across the spectrum. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy described Ramaiah’s passing as an “irreparable loss to society,” highlighting his belief in the inextricable link between humanity and nature. The Chief Minister lauded Ramaiah’s influence on inspiring youth towards environmental protection.
Condolences were also offered by Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, all acknowledging Ramaiah’s significant contribution to environmental conservation and his lasting legacy as a role model for future generations.
