Sun Apr 13 14:25:35 UTC 2025: ## All-Female Crew, Including Katy Perry and Jeff Bezos’ Fiancée, Set for Historic Space Flight
**Texas, April 14, 2025** – A groundbreaking all-female crew, led by Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Jeff Bezos, will embark on a suborbital space flight aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket on Monday. The mission, NS-31, marks the first crewed spaceflight in over 60 years without a male astronaut present, surpassing the solo flight of Valentina Tereshkova in 1963.
The six-person crew includes pop superstar Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and entrepreneur and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe. The 11-minute flight will reach a maximum altitude of 100 kilometers (62 miles), crossing the internationally recognized Kármán line, the boundary of space. While in space, the crew will experience approximately four minutes of weightlessness.
Sánchez, who spearheaded the selection of the crew, emphasized their shared ability to inspire others. Perry expressed her long-held dream of space travel, stating she had been eager to participate since Blue Origin’s early announcements. While the other crew members similarly described the opportunity as a dream fulfilled, King admitted initial hesitation before accepting the invitation.
Despite reaching space, the FAA, NASA, and the US military will not classify the women as astronauts due to differing eligibility criteria for commercial astronauts. Blue Origin’s New Shepard program has previously carried 52 individuals into space, including Bezos himself and actor William Shatner, who famously described a profound emotional response to the experience. This mission aims to inspire future generations through its pioneering all-female crew. The launch is scheduled for 8:30 AM local time from Blue Origin’s Texas launch site.
