Sat Apr 12 15:54:46 UTC 2025: ## IUML Leader Condemns Chief Minister’s Support for Controversial Remarks

**Kozhikode, April 12, 2025** – Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader K.M. Shaji has strongly criticized Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for defending SNDP general secretary Vellappally Natesan’s recent remarks against Malappuram district. Natesan, in a speech last week, alleged that the Ezhava community faces oppression in Malappuram, claiming they cannot even breathe freely there.

Shaji, speaking in Kozhikode on Saturday, dismissed Vijayan’s support, stating the IUML does not seek favor from either Vijayan or Natesan. He suggested Vijayan’s defense was a calculated political move aimed at garnering votes. Vijayan, while celebrating Natesan’s 30 years as SNDP general secretary, had insisted Natesan’s speech was not targeted against any community.

The controversy has escalated with former BJP president K. Surendran also backing Natesan, further fueling the debate. Surendran echoed Natesan’s sentiments, alleging water scarcity in Malappuram during Ramadan. The exchange highlights growing tensions and starkly contrasting perspectives on the situation in Malappuram.
