**Coimbatore, April 12, 2025** – A tragic incident on the Vellingiri hills claimed the life of a 42-year-old devotee from Kanchipuram. The Forest Department recovered Ramesh’s body from the fifth hill on Friday and handed it over to the Katoor police for a post-mortem examination.
In a separate development, Coimbatore police cracked down on a large-scale betting ring operating during IPL cricket matches. Seven individuals, hailing from Coimbatore, Kerala, and other states, were arrested and charged with operating the illegal operation. Police seized ₹1.09 crore in cash, along with 12 mobile phones, two cars, and two motorcycles. The accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
Finally, a jewellery trader filed a complaint with the cyber crime police, alleging an online fraud resulting in a loss of ₹9.38 lakh. The fraudster reportedly tricked the trader and his brother into updating their bank details online, subsequently siphoning off the money using an OTP received via WhatsApp. The incident highlights the growing threat of online financial scams.
