Sat Apr 12 17:02:13 UTC 2025: ## Egmore Museum Pavement in Disrepair: Chennai Civic Infrastructure Concerns

**Chennai, April 13, 2025** – A section of pavement outside the Egmore Museum in Chennai is in a state of disrepair, posing a safety hazard to pedestrians. According to a recent report in *The Hindu*, significant portions of the pavement are missing, revealing exposed rusty steel rods. This infrastructure, which also serves as a conduit for utility cables and a stormwater drain, is particularly problematic during crowded events held at the adjacent Museum theatre, extending late into the evening.

The damaged pavement is located on the northern and eastern sides of the museum, and the gaps, described as resembling “a prey picked clean to the bone,” pose a tripping hazard, especially in low light conditions. While vehicular traffic is generally absent from the carriageway, parked cars can force pedestrians onto the damaged pavement.

The Public Works Department (PWD), responsible for maintaining the museum’s infrastructure and having an office on the premises, has yet to address the issue. The *Hindu* article highlights the urgent need for repairs to ensure public safety.
