**THOOTHUKUDI, April 13, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department has inaugurated 19 medical centers in temples across the state, providing healthcare to over 720,000 devotees. The latest center, opened Sunday at the Kulasekarapattinam Mutharamman temple, was inaugurated by Minister P.K. Sekarbabu and Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan.
The initiative, announced in the 2024-2025 budget, aims to improve basic amenities at heavily frequented temples. The centers are equipped with essential medical supplies including oxygen cylinders, beds, blood pressure monitors, and emergency medications. The opening ceremony included the distribution of offer letters to newly appointed doctors and nurses. In addition to the 17 temples initially selected for the program, two more temples—Bavani Amman temple in Periyapalayam and the Mutharamman temple in Kulasekarapattinam—have also received medical centers. Minister Sekarbabu highlighted the HR&CE department’s broader efforts in temple restoration, renovation, and property protection.
