Sun Apr 13 15:16:57 UTC 2025: ## Thousands Protest New Waqf Act in Hyderabad

**Hyderabad, April 13, 2025** – Thousands of Muslims took to the streets of Hyderabad today to protest the recently enacted Waqf Amendment Act 2025, expressing deep concerns about its potential impact on Muslim religious endowments and governing bodies.

The demonstration, which started at Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium and concluded at the Ambedkar Statue, saw participants from across the city carrying placards and chanting slogans against the legislation. Many waved Indian flags, emphasizing their belief that the Act undermines the constitution and the Muslim community’s rights.

Protestors voiced anger towards Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for supporting the Act, fearing it will erode the autonomy of Waqf boards and jeopardize the future of religious properties. One participant, Syed Majid Hussain, stated that the Act is “an attack on Waqf properties and will lead to the end of Sharia,” highlighting the widespread concern within the community.

The large turnout caused significant traffic congestion in central Hyderabad, particularly around Basheerbagh and Tank Bund. The protest led to delays for commuters throughout the afternoon. The demonstration concluded peacefully.
