**Bengaluru, April 13, 2025** – A 26-year-old software engineer attempted self-immolation outside the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru on Sunday evening. The man, identified as Zubair, a resident of Hebbal, poured petrol on himself before being swiftly intervened by security personnel who doused him with water and detained him.
Zubair was subsequently handed over to the Vidhana Soudha police. He reportedly told police that he was driven to the act due to alleged harassment and a dowry harassment case filed against him by his wife in Chickaballapur. He further claimed that police refused to register a complaint regarding his alleged assault by his wife.
Police have booked Zubair for public nuisance and are currently investigating the matter. His parents have been summoned for questioning, and counseling has been provided to Zubair. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
