**Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, April 13, 2025** – A three-year-old boy died on Friday from suspected rabies in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, 45 days after being bitten by a rabid dog, sparking concerns about public health. The child, identified as Anshu, exhibited symptoms including hydrophobia before his death at a private hospital.
This tragic incident revealed a larger problem: ten other children, aged two to twelve, were also attacked by the same dog and received no medical treatment. Following Anshu’s death, health officials launched a vaccination drive in Nagla Nathlu village, where the attacks occurred.
While the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Aligarh district, Dr. Neeraj Tyagi, confirmed the vaccination drive and the serious nature of the situation, he stated that rabies could not be definitively confirmed as the cause of Anshu’s death due to the inability to test the deceased child and the dog, which was killed after the incident. Dr. Tyagi assured the public that government hospitals possess sufficient anti-rabies vaccines.
The incident highlights the urgent need for greater public awareness regarding rabies prevention and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention after animal bites.
