**Guiyang, China** – China is poised to unveil the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in June, a breathtaking feat of engineering that will claim the title of world’s tallest bridge. Spanning two miles across a massive canyon, the £216 million (approximately $270 million USD) structure will slash travel times from one hour to a mere minute.
Towering over 2050 feet – more than 200 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower and weighing three times as much – the bridge is a testament to Chinese engineering prowess. Its steel trusses, weighing a staggering 22,000 metric tons, were installed in just two months.
“This super project spanning the Earth’s crack will showcase China’s engineering capabilities and boost Guizhou’s goal of becoming a world-class tourist destination,” said Chinese politician Zhang Shenglin.
Chief Engineer Li Zhao expressed immense pride in the project, stating, “Witnessing my work become something tangible – watching the bridge grow day by day and finally stand tall above the canyon – gives me a profound sense of achievement.”
Beyond its practical function of connecting rural communities in a region already boasting nearly half of the world’s 100 tallest bridges, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is set to become a major tourist attraction. Plans include the addition of living areas, a glass walkway, and what’s touted as the world’s highest bungee jump. The bridge’s almost entirely suspended design further enhances its dramatic appeal. The previous record holder, the Beipanjiang Bridge, measured 1,854 feet.
