Sat Apr 12 16:13:15 UTC 2025: ## Ranipet to Get ₹35 Crore Four-Lane Bypass

**Ranipet, Tamil Nadu –** Construction has begun on a ₹35 crore, four-lane bypass connecting Tajpura and Veppur villages, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in Arcot town. The project, funded under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme 2024-25, was launched on Saturday by the Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, R. Gandhi.

The 10-meter wide bypass, featuring a median and footpaths, will provide an alternative route for long-distance travelers and heavy vehicles heading to the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway. This is expected to significantly improve travel times and ease congestion, particularly benefiting ambulances struggling to navigate Arcot’s narrow streets. The bypass will also improve access to key destinations including the Government Taluk Hospital in Walajah, the new Christian Medical College campus, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. in Ranipet, and towns like Melvisharam and Vellore.

Officials estimate that over 9,000 vehicles currently pass through Arcot daily en route to industrial corridors in Chennai and Bengaluru. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months. The new road will connect three key stretches: Krishnagiri-Ranipet High Road and Arcot-Kannamangalam High Road.
