Visakhapatnam: A jailor, Subba Reddy, from Anantapur Open Jail, is absconding after being accused of harassing a Visakhapatnam woman. The woman filed a complaint with the Visakhapatnam Cyber Crime police, alleging that Reddy repeatedly sent her obscene messages and made lewd calls, demanding nude photographs and videos. The harassment allegedly started after Reddy repeatedly friended the woman on Facebook.
The Cyber Crime police investigated the complaint and registered a case on March 22nd. However, when summoned for questioning, Reddy evaded authorities. A special police team was sent to Anantapur, only to find he had already fled. He reportedly informed his superiors via email that he was unwell, and subsequently disappeared from his quarters. His family members also left the premises.
Visakhapatnam CP Shankhabratha Bagchi has written to the Director General of Prisons, requesting strict action. The CP is also urging any other potential victims of Reddy’s harassment to come forward. Authorities are planning to file a chargesheet soon. It has been reported that Reddy has already secured pre-arrest bail from the High Court. The police investigation continues.
