Fri Apr 11 18:46:52 UTC 2025: ## US VP and National Security Advisor to Visit India Amidst Global Trade Concerns

**New Delhi, India –** Amidst global anxieties surrounding President Trump’s tariff policies, US Vice President J.D. Vance and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz will be visiting India starting April 21st. While Vance’s trip includes both official and private elements, with his family visiting several Indian cities, Waltz’s visit will focus entirely on official business.

Both officials are scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before his departure for Saudi Arabia on April 22nd. Waltz’s visit, lasting until April 23rd, will center on strengthening security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and unveiling new initiatives under the TRUST (Transforming the Relationship Utilizing Strategic Technology) program. This initiative, replacing the iCET program, aims to boost collaboration in high technology, critical minerals, and export controls. Waltz is expected to hold extensive talks with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and meet with Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

The visits follow a recent trip by US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and underscore Washington’s commitment to its relationship with India, especially given the recent trade tensions. President Trump’s recent 90-day pause on tariffs, excluding China, offers some respite, but global concerns remain. The visits are expected to further cement the India-US strategic partnership, particularly in light of ongoing collaborations in semiconductors, critical minerals, advanced telecommunications, and defense.
