Fri Apr 11 19:10:06 UTC 2025: ## US Vice President and National Security Advisor to Visit India Amidst Global Trade Tensions

**New Delhi, April 12, 2025** – U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz will visit India starting April 21st, reflecting Washington’s continued commitment to its relationship with India amidst global uncertainty surrounding President Trump’s tariff policies.

While Mr. Waltz’s visit will focus on official business, including discussions on Indo-Pacific security and high-technology cooperation under the new TRUST initiative (replacing iCET), Mr. Vance’s trip will blend official and private elements. He is expected to visit several Indian cities with his family.

Both officials are anticipated to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi before his trip to Saudi Arabia on April 22nd. Mr. Waltz’s visit, scheduled for April 21st-23rd, will include extensive talks with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and meetings with Prime Minister Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He will unveil further details of the TRUST initiative, which aims to deepen collaboration in critical technologies, minerals, and export controls.

These visits follow a recent trip by U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and occur against the backdrop of President Trump’s recently announced 90-day pause on tariffs (excluding China), implemented after widespread global concern over the potential for a trade war and economic recession. The planned India-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) negotiations, announced after talks between PM Modi and President Trump in February, are also a factor in the heightened diplomatic activity.
