Fri Apr 11 23:33:20 UTC 2025: ## Modi Welcomes AIADMK to NDA, Vows to Uproot DMK in Tamil Nadu
**Chennai, April 12** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), declaring a united front to propel Tamil Nadu to new heights of progress. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed his delight at the AIADMK joining the NDA family, stating that together they will strive to achieve progress for the state and uphold the vision of former Chief Ministers MGR and Jayalalithaa.
This significant political development, announced Friday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, solidifies the AIADMK, BJP, and other alliance partners as a united NDA front for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The alliance aims to replace the incumbent Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, which PM Modi characterized as corrupt and divisive. He vowed that the NDA would work to uproot the DMK for the sake of Tamil Nadu’s progress and the preservation of its unique culture.
The move marks a renewed attempt by the BJP to gain a stronger foothold in Tamil Nadu. The party failed to win any seats in the state during the last Lok Sabha elections. While the AIADMK and BJP previously allied in the 2021 state elections (resulting in four BJP seats), the partnership dissolved in 2023. This new alliance represents a significant shift in the state’s political landscape ahead of the crucial 2026 elections. The AIADMK, which has struggled in recent Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, is hoping this renewed alliance will bolster its electoral prospects.
