**Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the long-awaited Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on April 19th, marking a significant milestone in connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India by rail. The 272-km line, featuring a 119-km tunnel, is a key development for the region’s connectivity, according to Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Railway Board.

The project’s completion fulfills a long-held dream of connecting Kashmir by rail, significantly impacting religious tourism and overall accessibility. To celebrate the inauguration, two Vande Bharat Express trains will commence service, one running from Srinagar and the other from Katra to Srinagar.

A successful trial run of an 18-coach train on the line, traversing the Anji Khad and Chenab Bridges (the latter being the world’s highest railway bridge), has already taken place. The trains are specifically designed to withstand the harsh winter conditions of the Kashmir Valley. Security has been heightened in Reasi in anticipation of the Prime Minister’s visit.
