Fri Apr 11 13:05:33 UTC 2025: ## Pope Francis’ Health Improves, Easter Participation Uncertain

**Vatican City** – Pope Francis, 88, is showing signs of recovery after a bout of pneumonia, making unscheduled appearances around the Vatican this week. While his health is improving, his participation in Easter week celebrations remains uncertain, the Vatican announced Friday.

The pontiff, who recently spent five weeks hospitalized, surprised onlookers with three impromptu outings. These included a Thursday visit to St. Peter’s Basilica, where he greeted tourists and workers in casual attire – a long-sleeved shirt, black trousers, and a poncho – while using a breathing cannula. He also had an unscheduled audience with King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Wednesday and made an unexpected appearance in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed that these outings were unplanned, stating, “Sometimes things are born out of a desire to surprise, and they surprise us too.” While Bruni noted improvements in the Pope’s voice and mobility, he stressed that it’s too early to confirm his presence at next week’s Easter services. The decision, he explained, will depend on both the Pope’s ongoing recovery and the weather conditions. Despite doctors’ recommendations for rest, the Pope’s eagerness to move about and engage with people has been evident.
