Sat Apr 12 15:46:40 UTC 2025: ## Hundreds Protest Waqf Amendment Bill in Thrissur
**THRISSUR, Kerala, April 12, 2025** – A large protest march took place in Thrissur today, organized by the Kerala Muslim Jamaat, against the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Bill. Hundreds participated in the peaceful demonstration, which started at the Chettiyangadi Sunni Masjid and proceeded through the city, culminating in a public meeting.
The protesters voiced concerns that the bill infringes upon the rights and welfare of the Muslim community. Speakers at the rally included prominent figures from various Muslim organizations such as the Samastha central Mushawara, Kerala Muslim Jamaat, Sunni Yuvajana Samgam (SYS), Sunni Students’ Federation (SSF), and Sunni Jam-iyyathul Muallimeen (SJM).
The event also featured addresses from CPI(M) district secretariat member P.K. Shajan, Youth Congress State vice-president O.B. Janesh, and MLA P. Balachandran. Balachandran condemned the bill, calling it a part of a hidden anti-Muslim agenda by the BJP government, designed to sow division and fear. He emphasized that the Waqf Act was a right granted to Muslims to contribute to their community and the nation’s progress.
Speakers from various religious backgrounds echoed these sentiments, arguing the bill threatens India’s secular and democratic values. They vowed to continue their peaceful struggle until the bill is repealed, emphasizing that this is a fight for the rights of all citizens who believe in equality and justice.
