NEW DELHI – India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted trials of its indigenously developed long-range glide bomb, “Gaurav,” between April 8th and 10th, 2025. The 1,000kg bomb, launched from a Sukhoi Su-30 MKI aircraft, achieved a range of nearly 100 kilometers with pinpoint accuracy.

The successful tests, announced by the Ministry of Defence on April 11th, pave the way for the weapon’s induction into the Indian Air Force (IAF). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO, IAF, and industry partners for their contribution to the project. He stated that Gaurav significantly enhances the armed forces’ capabilities.

The trials involved integrating the bomb into multiple aircraft stations with various warhead configurations and targeting a land-based island target. Development partners included Adani Defence Systems and Technologies, Bharat Forge, and several MSMEs. The Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification and the Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance also played crucial roles in certification and quality assurance. The bomb was jointly developed by the DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat and Armament Research and Development Establishment.

The successful testing of Gaurav marks a significant advancement in India’s indigenous defence capabilities, strengthening the IAF’s strike capacity.
