**Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, April 12, 2025** – A court in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced five men to life imprisonment for the 2018 murder of Rameshwar Prasad and the attempted murder of his nephew, Ram Anuj. The convicts, including a father-son duo and two brothers, were also fined ₹29,500 each, with an additional 26 months imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
The incident stemmed from a land dispute in Ahiyachet village. According to the complaint filed by Ramdayal, the victim’s brother, the accused attacked Rameshwar Prasad and Ram Anuj with a hoe while they were returning from their fields. Rameshwar Prasad died from his injuries at the district hospital, while Ram Anuj sustained severe injuries.
The five accused – Maniram (62), Mata Prasad (35), Rajesh Kumar (35), Madhavraj (40), and Sanwali Prasad (70) – were all residents of the same village. The court, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge and Special Judge (POCSO Act) Rajesh Narayan Mani Tripathi, found them guilty after reviewing evidence and witness testimonies. The charges included rioting, use of deadly weapons, murder, attempted murder, and other offenses under the Indian Penal Code. The time already served in pre-trial custody will be considered part of their sentences.
