**Kozhikode, April 12, 2025** – Congress MP Shashi Tharoor lauded Kerala as a model of “unity in diversity,” echoing Mahatma Gandhi’s vision, during the first anniversary celebrations of the Malabar Initiative for Social Harmony (MISH) in Kozhikode. Speaking at the Vishu-Id-Easter meet on Friday, Mr. Tharoor highlighted Kerala’s unique history of peaceful coexistence among various religious and cultural communities.
He cited the example of the Arab community’s arrival in Kerala over two millennia ago, emphasizing their friendly integration and cultural exchange with the local population. Mr. Tharoor also noted the unique experience of Kerala’s Jewish community, which, unlike many others globally, never faced religious persecution.
Mr. Tharoor described Kozhikode as a symbol of cultural confluence and progressive thinking, a city where diversity is not merely tolerated but celebrated. MISH chairman P.V. Chandran stressed the importance of unity amidst rising religious, caste, and political tensions. The event was attended by several other dignitaries, including MISH vice-chairman K. Moidu and treasurer C.E. Chakkunni.
