Sat Apr 12 05:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Christian Bale’s Wardrobe Concerns Almost Kept Him From “Thor: Love and Thunder”

**New York, NY** – Christian Bale’s portrayal of Gorr the God Butcher in “Thor: Love and Thunder” is widely praised, but the actor initially had serious reservations about the role, primarily concerning his costume. Bale, in interviews with GamesRadar and The Wrap, revealed his apprehension about the character’s traditionally skimpy attire in the comics—a G-string—and his inability to compete physically with Chris Hemsworth. He jokingly stated that the prospect of wearing a G-string was far more terrifying than wielding the Necrosword, the villain’s powerful weapon.

Director Taika Waititi ultimately redesigned the character’s look, opting for a white, toga-like outfit that reflects Gorr’s grief after losing his daughter. Costume designer Mayes C. Rubeo collaborated extensively with Waititi and Bale on the final design, aiming for an ancient, mournful aesthetic. Bale’s concerns were eventually alleviated, and his performance has garnered favorable comparisons to Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker.

“Thor: Love and Thunder,” which features Bale’s acclaimed performance, airs on SYFY this Saturday, April 12th, at 10:00 p.m. ET. The film, based on the Marvel comics character created by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic, sees Gorr embark on a campaign to slaughter all gods. While the comic book Gorr sports a loincloth, the movie version boasts a more refined, albeit still striking, costume design.
