**Imphal, Manipur –** Manipur Police announced the arrest of six militants from various factions across the state on Friday, April 11, 2025. The arrests, part of an ongoing crackdown on extortion, targeted members of the Kanglei Yaowl Kanna Lup (KYKL/SOREPA), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Noyon), KCP(PWG), and PREPAK (Pro). The arrested individuals, ranging in age from 23 to 39, were allegedly involved in extortion of businesses and recruitment of new members into their respective groups. One arrest occurred during an extortion attempt on a truck driver. The arrests span several districts, including Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West, and Kangpokpi.

These arrests follow a recent surge in similar operations targeting militants across both Meitei and Kuki areas, amidst ongoing ethnic violence. Authorities attribute the increase in extortion to the unstable situation. The crackdown comes as the central government works to restore peace to the state, which has been under President’s Rule since February following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The ethnic violence, which began in May 2023, has resulted in over 250 deaths and thousands displaced. Director General of Police Rajiv Singh visited Thoubal district on Friday to assess the ongoing law and order situation.
