**Jammu, April 12, 2025** – A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was killed in a gunfight with terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter, which began late Friday night, resulted in the thwarting of a terrorist infiltration attempt.
According to officials, alert troops engaged a group of heavily armed terrorists near a stream. A fierce gun battle ensued, leaving the JCO fatally wounded. The area has been cordoned off, and a search operation is underway. This incident follows a similar attack on February 11th in the same area, where two Army personnel were killed by an IED.
The encounter comes just two days after a brigade commander-level flag meeting between India and Pakistan in Poonch district to discuss border management. Despite recent efforts to de-escalate tensions, this latest incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region. The Indian Army lodged a strong protest with Pakistani authorities over the cross-border terrorism and ceasefire violations. While ceasefire violations along the LoC have been infrequent since the 2021 agreement, this incident underscores the persistent threat.
