**Newark, NJ –** Alina Habba, the interim US Attorney for New Jersey and a personal lawyer for former President Donald Trump, is facing criticism for her scheduled appearance at a conservative business conference featuring figures with ties to the far-right and QAnon conspiracy theories.
Habba, who assumed the top federal prosecutor role in New Jersey on March 28th, is slated to speak at Clay Clark’s “Make American Business Great Again” conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on September 25th and 26th. The conference, a spin-off of the controversial “ReAwaken America” tour, will also feature Eric Trump, and other figures known for their involvement in promoting conspiracy theories and anti-vaccine sentiments.
Habba’s lack of prosecutorial experience and past association with figures sanctioned for frivolous lawsuits have raised concerns about her suitability for the position. A federal judge previously sanctioned Habba and Trump for nearly $1 million for filing a frivolous lawsuit against Hillary Clinton.
The conference lineup includes figures previously associated with the ReAwaken America tour, known for its mix of MAGA personalities, election deniers, and QAnon adherents. Speakers include Dr. Stella Immanuel, known for promoting unproven COVID-19 treatments, and Amanda Grace, a self-proclaimed prophet who has warned about “technologically advanced mermaids.”
Legal ethics experts have expressed concern over Habba’s participation, stating that such political appearances by US Attorneys can harm public confidence in the rule of law. This concern is echoed by similar controversies involving other interim US Attorneys who have engaged in partisan political activities.
Habba’s office has not responded to inquiries regarding her continued participation in the September conference. Her 120-day interim appointment could conclude before the event, depending on whether Trump formally nominates her and she receives Senate confirmation.
