**Malda, West Bengal –** Senior BJP leader and West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari visited Mothabari in Malda district on Friday, providing aid to families affected by recent inter-group clashes. Mr. Adhikari secured permission from the Calcutta High Court to visit the area after his requests to the district police superintendent went unanswered.
The clashes, which occurred in late March, involved arson, vandalism, and physical attacks following a religious procession. Over 60 arrests have been made, and internet services were temporarily suspended to quell the unrest. A large police and Rapid Action Force presence was deployed.
Mr. Adhikari urged affected families to file First Information Reports (FIRs) and offered financial assistance and relief materials. He plans to visit three more locations in the area as per the High Court order. This visit follows a previous attempt by a BJP delegation, led by Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, which was blocked from entering the affected area.
