**Patna, Bihar –** Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Tarun Chugh launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday, accusing her of misleading the public and obstructing the implementation of the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Chugh, speaking at a BJP workshop in Patna, went so far as to label Banerjee the “new Jinnah of India,” alleging that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is mirroring the actions of the pre-independence Muslim League.
Chugh asserted that the Waqf Act is a national law and Banerjee’s opposition undermines India’s federal structure. He further criticized her stance as a cynical ploy for vote-bank politics, masked under the guise of secularism. He cited a recent alleged attack on a Hindu home by TMC supporters as evidence of the party’s alleged sectarian agenda.
The BJP leader also targeted Rahul Gandhi for his criticism of the Waqf Act, calling him a “retarded child” and questioning his commitment to the rights of Pasmanda Muslims. Chugh extended his criticism to the Congress and RJD, accusing them of historically undermining the rights of backward and deprived sections of society, specifically citing their opposition to the Kaka Kalelkar and Mandal Commission reports. He accused the Congress of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and the spirit of social justice for seven decades.
Chugh further questioned the alliance between RJD and Congress, highlighting the contrasting ideologies and accusing Lalu Prasad Yadav of betraying the principles of the JP movement by aligning with a party he once opposed. He concluded by alleging decades of Congress rule were marked by the dismissal of numerous elected governments, further underlining his condemnation of the opposition coalition.
