Fri Apr 11 02:52:33 UTC 2025: ## Russia Claims Gains in Ukraine’s Sumy Region Amidst Intensified Attacks

**Moscow, April 11, 2025** – Russia’s Defence Ministry announced Thursday the capture of the village of Zhuravka in Ukraine’s Sumy region, bordering Russia. This claim, however, remains unacknowledged by Ukrainian officials. The reported advance follows Russia’s claimed seizure of Basivka four days prior, a claim also disputed by Ukraine.

According to Sumy region governor Volodymyr Artiukh, Russian attacks in the area have intensified by 30% over the past week, with 47 assault operations launched against Ukrainian positions. The attacks are focused around Zhuravka and Vasivka, and also target civilian infrastructure, including food processing facilities.

Russian state media reported that the capture of Zhuravka brings Russian forces closer to Yunakivka, a key logistics hub for Ukrainian forces operating in the neighboring Kursk region. Russia has been attempting to dislodge these Ukrainian forces since their incursion eight months ago. Ukraine acknowledges ongoing fighting in the Kursk region, and for the first time, President Zelenskyy confirmed Ukrainian operations in Russia’s Belgorod region, aiming to protect Ukrainian towns.

Mr. Artiukh reported that despite the intensified attacks, Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region continue to offer resistance, inflicting significant losses on Russian troops. The Kremlin’s stated goal remains the establishment of a buffer zone along the border. Russia’s ongoing offensive in the Sumy region underscores the continuing intensity of the conflict along the border.
