**Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, April 11, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Varanasi today for his 50th visit to his parliamentary constituency since 2014. His visit was overshadowed by the recent gang rape of a 19-year-old student, prompting immediate action from the Prime Minister.
Upon landing, PM Modi received a detailed briefing on the case from local officials. He subsequently ordered the “strictest possible action” against the perpetrators and demanded measures to prevent future occurrences. At least nine individuals have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody in connection with the crime, which allegedly involved multiple locations and several accused. An FIR has been registered against 12 named and 11 unidentified individuals based on the victim’s family complaint.
Despite the serious situation, PM Modi also proceeded with a pre-planned event, inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for 44 development projects valued at over ₹3,880 crore. These projects encompass various sectors, including rural development with initiatives such as new drinking water schemes, Anganwadi centers, libraries, and educational institutions. He also presented Geographical Indications (GI) certificates during the event.
