**Abuja, Nigeria –** The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) has resolved 15,077 cases in the past six months, Chief Commissioner Hon. Bashir Abubakar announced yesterday. This represents a 23.19% resolution rate out of 64,967 complaints received nationwide between October 2024 and March 2025. The announcement came during a media briefing in Abuja, where Abubakar outlined a comprehensive reform agenda aimed at strengthening the PCC’s role in providing administrative justice.
Abubakar emphasized the importance of accessible administrative justice as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democracy, highlighting the PCC’s commitment to transparency and accountability. He cited UN Resolution 77/224 as a benchmark for global Ombudsman institutions and stated the PCC is aligning itself with these standards.
The reform agenda includes improved staff training, addressing outstanding staff arrears, and implementing digital innovations to streamline complaint resolution. Two staff members were recently dismissed for breaching confidentiality, underscoring the Commission’s commitment to ethical conduct. The PCC is also seeking pro bono legal services from prominent lawyers and enhanced collaboration with federal, state, and private stakeholders. A new External Support Unit will actively pursue funding from international organizations and NGOs to bolster operations and reduce government financial strain.
Abubakar acknowledged past challenges, including strained relations between management and staff, but stated that these issues have been resolved through improved communication. He expressed gratitude for the support received from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Assembly, and various legislative committees, noting that increased budgetary allocation will enhance the PCC’s efficiency.
As the PCC approaches its 50th anniversary in October 2025, Abubakar reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to becoming a model of democratic accountability and urged all Nigerians to support its mission.
