Fri Apr 11 05:30:22 UTC 2025: ## Delhi High Court Urges Lawyers to Promote Resolution in Matrimonial Disputes

**NEW DELHI, April 11, 2025** – The Delhi High Court has issued a strong statement emphasizing the responsibility of lawyers in matrimonial cases to prioritize dispute resolution over escalating conflict. In a recent order, a bench comprising Justices Prathiba M Singh and Amit Sharma noted the significant emotional distress experienced by litigants in such cases, often leading to a standstill in their personal lives.

The court stressed that lawyers have a duty not only to their clients but also to the court and society to foster peace. Instead of fueling allegations, lawyers should actively guide clients towards amicable settlements, the judges declared.

This statement followed a case where a husband was fined ₹1 lakh for abusive behavior towards his wife’s counsel in a family court. While the court acknowledged some mitigating circumstances that might have provoked the husband, it deemed his actions unacceptable. The court emphasized that even if there were valid grievances against the opposing counsel, resorting to verbal abuse is never permissible. The husband was ultimately admonished and ordered to apologize to the counsel. The court’s decision highlights the growing concern over the destructive role adversarial legal tactics can play in already strained family relationships.
