Fri Apr 11 13:50:00 UTC 2025: **BJP’s Amit Shah Confirms Annamalai Remains Tamil Nadu President Amidst Speculation**

CHENNAI, INDIA – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has put to rest rumors surrounding the future of K Annamalai as Tamil Nadu BJP president, stating unequivocally that Annamalai remains in his post. Shah’s comments came during a press conference Friday announcing the renewed alliance between the BJP and the AIADMK.

Reports had circulated suggesting Annamalai’s removal was a precondition set by AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami for the alliance renewal. Shah dismissed these reports as untrue, pointing to Annamalai, seated beside him, as proof. While pressed further on Annamalai’s future role, Shah responded that some matters would remain internal to the party.

The press conference also revealed that Nainar Nagendran, the current vice-president and Tirunelveli MLA, will be the unopposed nominee for the Tamil Nadu BJP president position. His nomination was proposed by Annamalai and other senior leaders, including L Murugan and Pon Radhakrishnan.

Shah praised Annamalai’s contributions to the party, highlighting his unprecedented work in promoting the BJP’s policies and programs across Tamil Nadu. He further announced that Annamalai’s organizational skills would be utilized within the party’s national framework. Although the BJP hasn’t seen significant electoral gains in Tamil Nadu under Annamalai’s leadership since 2021, he is credited with raising the party’s profile in the state. Previous reports suggested friction between Annamalai and the AIADMK, with the latter reportedly wanting him removed due to perceived attempts to overshadow the AIADMK’s position within the alliance.
