**Surat, Gujarat, April 11, 2025** – A fire broke out this morning in the Happy Excellencia building, a multi-story residential tower in Surat’s Vesu area. Eighteen people trapped on the roof were successfully rescued by the Surat fire brigade, with no reported injuries.

The blaze, which began around 8 a.m. on the seventh floor, quickly spread to the two floors above. Surat Mayor Daxesh Mavani stated that the fire department assisted 40 residents in evacuating via the stairs before focusing on the terrace rescue. Those trapped on the roof were brought down safely using wet towels to protect them from the smoke.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who witnessed the fire from his nearby residence, personally oversaw the rescue operation. He praised the swift and effective response of the approximately 50 firefighters and five fire engines that responded to the scene. Mr. Sanghavi confirmed that the fire is now under control.

One rescued resident described the chaotic scene, explaining that the thick smoke made it impossible to use the stairs, forcing residents to flee to the roof.
