Fri Apr 11 03:24:35 UTC 2025: ## Visakhapatnam Residents Protest Contaminated Water Supply

**Visakhapatnam, April 11, 2025** – Residents of Bukka Veedhi in Visakhapatnam staged a protest on Thursday, alleging that contaminated drinking water supplied by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is causing health problems. Protestors claim that the drinking water pipelines run alongside sewage lines, leading to severe contamination.

Residents carried samples of the discolored, foul-smelling water, stating they have been forced to use it for drinking and cooking despite repeated complaints to the GVMC. They reported suffering from stomach infections and skin diseases as a result. One resident, Meena, described the water’s unpleasant appearance and odor, highlighting the lack of alternative water sources. Another, Devi, explained that residents wait for 20-30 minutes after the water is released, hoping the initial, heavily contaminated flow will pass.

K. Chandrasekhar of the CITU stated that despite numerous complaints, the GVMC has failed to resolve the issue. He added that the GVMC’s claim of having issued tenders without receiving a response is unacceptable, urging them to re-issue tenders immediately given the serious public health implications. The protest underscores the urgent need for the GVMC to address the contaminated water supply in Bukka Veedhi.
