**New York, NY – April 11, 2025** – A sightseeing helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in New York City yesterday, killing all six people on board, including Agustin Escobar, the 55-year-old CEO of a Siemens Mobility subsidiary. Escobar, his wife Mercè Camprubí Montal, and their three children perished in the accident. The pilot also died.
According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, all six bodies have been recovered. The helicopter reportedly broke apart midair before crashing upside down. Witnesses observed the helicopter’s landing skids protruding from the river near a tunnel vent.
Escobar, a native of Spain, had a distinguished 27-year career with Siemens, most recently serving as the global CEO for rail infrastructure at Siemens Mobility. He also briefly held the position of president and CEO of Siemens Spain in late 2022 and served as vice president of the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain since 2023. His wife, Camprubí Montal, worked for Siemens Energy in Barcelona.
Following the tragedy, Brooklyn Borough President Mark Levine called for stricter regulations on helicopter traffic in New York City, citing approximately 30 helicopter crashes in the city since 1980. The incident is currently under investigation.
