**New Delhi, April 11, 2025** – A Delhi court today remanded Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, to 18 days of National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody. The 64-year-old Pakistani-Canadian businessman, a close associate of David Headley, was extradited from the US after the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal.
The NIA, which had sought a 20-day custody period, presented evidence including emails to the court, arguing that Rana’s interrogation is crucial to uncovering the full extent of the conspiracy behind the attacks. The agency alleges Rana’s involvement in planning the attacks and communication with Headley regarding logistics and the participation of other Pakistani operatives, Ilyas Kashmiri and Abdur Rehman.
Rana, who was represented by a lawyer appointed by the Delhi Legal Services Authority after he stated he did not have legal representation, was brought to the Patiala House Court under heavy security. Media and the public were barred from the court complex for security reasons.
The 2008 Mumbai attacks, carried out by 10 Pakistani terrorists, resulted in the deaths of 166 people across several locations in the city, including a railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre. Rana is accused of conspiring with Headley and members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HUJI) terrorist organizations.
