**NEW DELHI** – A Delhi Metro passenger is facing legal action after a video of him consuming what appeared to be alcohol and an egg on a moving train went viral. The footage, taken by a fellow passenger and subsequently shared widely on social media, shows the man furtively taking sips from a glass and eating an egg.
Delhi Police, responding to a complaint and the video’s widespread circulation, launched an investigation. The police tweeted the video, highlighting the violation of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) rules. “Eggs & Alcohol in the Metro? That’s not breakfast – that’s a breach!” the tweet stated.
The accused, a resident of Burari, North Delhi, was identified and admitted to the offense, although he claims the beverage was Appy Fizz, a carbonated apple drink, and that he was filming the act for social media. He was charged under Section 59 of the DMRC Act.
In a video released by the Delhi Police, the man apologized for his actions, stating, “I did the wrong thing. I request everyone not to do any such thing. Today I have to face the law because of what I did. I seek forgiveness.”
While the man maintains his actions were intended for online views, the video’s depiction of apparent alcohol consumption on public transport has sparked debate. The incident underscores growing concerns about social media influencers performing stunts on the Delhi Metro, often disrupting commuters during peak hours. The police action serves as a warning against such behavior.
