**New Delhi, April 10, 2025** – Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian-American and co-conspirator in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, has been extradited from the United States and arrived in India today. Rana, 64, was handed over to a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team in California late Tuesday night (Wednesday morning IST) and flown back to India. He is expected to be produced before a court in Delhi soon.
Rana was charged in absentia by the NIA in 2011 for his role in assisting Lashkar-e-Taiba operative David Headley in the planning and execution of the attacks, which killed over 166 people. His alleged involvement included procuring a visa and creating a false identity for Headley.
Security has been significantly heightened in anticipation of Rana’s arrival. Sources indicate he will be held in a high-security ward at Tihar Jail. Increased security measures are also in place outside Delhi’s Patiala House Court, where he is expected to be produced.
