New Delhi, April 10, 2025 — Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistan-born Canadian national and key associate of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind David Coleman Headley, arrived in India today after extradition from the United States. The Indian government has appointed Narender Mann as special public prosecutor to handle the case for the next three years or until the trial’s conclusion.
Rana, 64, is accused of involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. A multi-agency team traveled to the U.S. to facilitate his return. The Union Home Ministry announced the appointment of Mann late last night, citing the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Mann will represent the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in trials before NIA Special Courts in Delhi and appellate courts. The case is registered as RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI.
