**CEDAR RAPIDS, IA –** US Cellular announced Tuesday it will lay off nearly 500 employees across Iowa, impacting primarily eastern Iowa, as part of a larger nationwide restructuring affecting 4,100 workers. The company is selling its operations to T-Mobile.

The layoffs, reported through Iowa’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, are expected to begin June 2nd or within 14 days. Approximately 300 jobs will be lost in eastern Iowa, with the remainder distributed across central and western Iowa. The cuts also affect employees in several other states, including Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.

While the news is concerning, US Cellular stated that it intends to offer a majority of the affected employees similar positions with comparable pay and benefits at T-Mobile. The exact number of employees offered these positions has not yet been specified.
