**Thiruvananthapuram, April 10, 2025** – The Kerala High Court has ordered the state government to seize and sell properties belonging to the outlawed Popular Front of India (PFI) and its officials to recover ₹3.94 crore in damages. This sum was awarded by the Claims Commissioner for the destruction of public and private property during a flash hartal called by the PFI on September 23, 2022.

The court’s directive, issued on Thursday, came in response to a series of writ petitions challenging the PFI’s unscheduled hartals. The Claims Commissioner’s report, based on 98 claim petitions (60 related to KSRTC buses and 38 to private properties), assessed the total damages at ₹3.94 crore.

The High Court bench, comprising Justices A.K. Jayasankaran Nambiar and Mohammed Nias C.P., ordered the attachment of PFI properties at the national, state, district, and local levels to fulfill the compensation amount. The court’s decision emphasizes the need for accountability for the destruction of property during unauthorized protests.
