Thu Apr 10 09:15:37 UTC 2025: ## Early Summer Heatwave Sweeps Across Northern India
**Chandigarh, India –** A premature summer heatwave has engulfed Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and other parts of northern India, with temperatures soaring higher than last year’s levels in early April. The Chandigarh Meteorological Center Director and Senior Meteorologist, Surendra Pal, reported that the intense heat, typically experienced after April 15th, has arrived over a week early.
While some temporary respite is expected in the coming days due to Western Disturbances, the impact will be minimal, and widespread heatwaves are anticipated across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts this year’s summer will be hotter than last year, issuing a warning for heatwave conditions in several areas, including parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, as well as Saurashtra & Kutch. The IMD forecasts heatwave conditions to hit isolated pockets on April 10th, spreading to more regions by April 15th. Specific forecasts include partly cloudy skies with potential rain or dust storms in Rajasthan (April 11-12), light rain in Haryana (April 10-11), and similar conditions in Punjab (April 10).
Punjab is expected to experience a high of 39°C today, dropping to 33°C tomorrow. Minimum temperatures will hover around 20°C.
The IMD urges residents to take precautions, advising against unnecessary outdoor activities, particularly for children and the elderly. They recommend staying hydrated, wearing loose, light clothing, and minimizing sun exposure to mitigate the effects of the heatwave.
