**New Delhi, April 10, 2025** – Delhi Police announced the arrest of two men, Salman Sayeed Siddiqui (50) and Rohit Rajaram Ghanekar (29), for allegedly running a sophisticated racket selling fake airline tickets through social media. The arrests followed a complaint from a victim who lost ₹47,681 after purchasing a fraudulent Delhi-to-Toronto flight ticket.
The accused used virtual phone numbers, fake social media profiles mimicking legitimate travel agencies, and phishing techniques to target unsuspecting customers. They created convincing fake tickets before demanding payment, then deactivated their communication channels after receiving the money.
Siddiqui, the mastermind, has a prior arrest record for a similar scam in Mumbai in 2023. He leveraged his experience working for reputable travel agencies and an IATA certification to create believable fraud. Ghanekar’s role involved procuring fake SIM cards and mule bank accounts.
Police recovered numerous items during raids in Mumbai and Delhi, including mobile phones, laptops, debit/credit cards, and materials used to create fake documents. Investigations are ongoing to identify further victims and the full extent of the fraudulent operation. The police believe the duo are part of a larger network.
