**New Delhi, April 10, 2025** – The Delhi High Court dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) on Wednesday seeking protection for peacocks from electrocution. The petition, filed by the NGO Save India Foundation, urged the court to direct authorities to implement regulations preventing the national bird from coming into contact with exposed electrical wires.
The NGO claimed to have submitted representations to the Delhi government’s Department of Forests and Wildlife and the power department just days before filing the petition. The court, however, questioned the expediency of filing the PIL before receiving responses from the relevant authorities.
Justice [Justice’s name, if available] stated that the court is not responsible for creating laws and that there are established channels for addressing such grievances. The court dismissed the petition, noting it lacked jurisdiction in this matter and that it was not equipped to legislate.
While dismissing the petition, the court granted the petitioner the liberty to resubmit their concerns to the appropriate authorities within two weeks. The judge emphasized the existence of established mechanisms for handling citizen grievances and urged the petitioner to exhaust these avenues before seeking judicial intervention.
