Thu Apr 10 12:45:20 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh CPI Condemns State Government’s Alleged Favoritism Towards Mittal Steel Over VSP

**VIJAYAWADA, April 10, 2025** – The Communist Party of India (CPI) in Andhra Pradesh has sharply criticized the state government for its perceived neglect of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) in favor of the upcoming Mittal Steel project. CPI state secretary K. Ramakrishna issued a statement today demanding clarification from the government regarding its stance on VSP’s development.

Ramakrishna specifically condemned Industries Minister T.G. Bharat’s request to the Union government for captive mines and port access for Mittal Steel. He argued that this request is inappropriate, especially given the ongoing public protests against the privatization of VSP and the government’s apparent indifference to the situation. The CPI leader highlighted the stark contrast between the government’s proactive pursuit of resources for Mittal Steel and its inaction regarding VSP, calling it unethical and a betrayal of the public sector.

Ramakrishna further emphasized the historical significance of VSP, reminding the public of the 32 lives lost during the struggle for its establishment. He warned that failure to develop and retain VSP in the public sector will be a grave historical error. He urged the state government to pressure the central government to allocate captive mines to VSP, demonstrating a genuine commitment to its future. The CPI leader accused the state government of aligning with the Centre’s alleged “devious plans” to undermine the public sector steel plant.
