**Kozhikode, Kerala, April 10, 2025** – Seventy-five ninth-grade students from schools in the Malappuram district participated in a three-day chemistry camp at the University of Calicut. The camp, funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) under its Inspirational Science Programme and named after the scientist-philanthropist Yusuf Hamied, aimed to foster a love of science through hands-on learning.

The initiative, a collaboration between the University of Calicut’s Department of Chemistry and the RSC, provided students with a series of experiments, lectures, and demonstrations designed to make complex chemistry concepts engaging and accessible. Participants received free protective gear, including lab coats, safety goggles, and shoes.

Sweta Raghavan, Head of Innovation & Government Affairs at the RSC, emphasized the organization’s commitment to promoting science education and nurturing a scientific mindset among young people. University Vice-Chancellor P. Raveendran, who inaugurated the camp, encouraged students to explore the wonders of nature and its influence on human invention.

The camp was coordinated by Melissa Mendonza of the RSC and Suja T. D. from the University’s Chemistry Department. Student selection was facilitated by Samagra Shiksha Kerala.
