**Mumbai, India** – A survivor of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks has spoken out following the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, accused of conspiring in the attacks. Rajita Kukarni, a former banker and educator, recounted her harrowing experience while sheltering in the Taj Mahal Hotel during the siege. Ms. Kukarni, who was identified in recently resurfaced NDTV footage from the event, described being trapped with approximately 200 others, including CEOs and members of parliament, after gunfire erupted. They were eventually rescued the following morning by NSG commandos.
Ms. Kukarni expressed immense relief at Rana’s extradition, calling it a “monumental achievement” and thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, former US President Donald Trump, and the US Supreme Court for their roles. She believes the trial will bring justice to the victims and their families.
While acknowledging that full closure is impossible given the magnitude of the national trauma, Ms. Kukarni emphasized the importance of remembering the 26/11 attacks to strengthen national security and prevent future tragedies. Rana, a 64-year-old former Pakistan Army doctor, faces charges including criminal conspiracy, waging war against India, murder, and forgery, related to his alleged logistical and financial support to David Headley, a key conspirator in the attacks.
