Thu Apr 10 02:41:43 UTC 2025: **Andhra Pradesh Forms Committee to Address US Seafood Tariff Impact**

Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – April 10, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh government has established a 16-member Aquaculture Advisory Committee (AAC) to address the challenges facing the state’s aquaculture sector, primarily the 26% tariff imposed by the US on seafood exports. The committee, comprising representatives from various stakeholders including the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), Fisheries Department, aqua farmers, and processing units, will investigate the impact of the tariff and propose short-term and long-term solutions.

The AAC is tasked with submitting a preliminary report within five days outlining the crisis and immediate solutions. A more comprehensive report detailing long-term strategies will follow within three weeks. These strategies include exploring alternative export markets, diversifying aquaculture production to boost domestic consumption, and potentially creating a National Prawn Coordination Committee to enhance domestic seafood demand. The committee will also examine the feasibility of a corpus fund for emergency support to the aquaculture sector and explore strategies for dynamic feed pricing and shrimp price stabilization. The government’s swift action comes after discussions between Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and key stakeholders in the industry.
