**Bratislava, Slovakia –** President Droupadi Murmu’s two-day state visit to Slovakia concluded with Slovakia reaffirming its strong support for India’s bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated that both nations are major advocates for multilateralism and the effective functioning of international organizations, highlighting the importance of India’s UNSC bid for Slovakia.
The announcement came following a meeting between the two presidents at the Presidential Palace. The meeting included a traditional Bread and Salt ceremony, symbolizing hospitality and friendship. During the visit, India and Slovakia signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs): one focusing on cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and another on cooperation between foreign service institutes.
President Murmu expressed gratitude for Slovakia’s assistance in evacuating Indian students during the Ukraine conflict, emphasizing the strengthened friendship and partnership between the two nations. She also noted the shared commitment to democratic values and global peace. President Pellegrini described the relationship between India and Slovakia as very friendly, characterized by an intense political dialogue. He viewed President Murmu’s visit as a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations.
